Introduction

The first International Youth Symposium on Islamic Science, Technology and Innovation will be held from 6 - 7 August 2007 in Kuala Lumpur prior to the International Symposium on Islamic Science, Technology and Innovation that will be held in Kuala Lumpur from 9 – 11 August 2007.

The youths of today are leaders of tomorrow. Muslim societies need science and technology as a tool to develop economically, socially while at the same time caring for the environment. Thus Muslim youths of today need to prepare themselves to fill up the vacuum of science and technology experts that exist in most Muslim societies and they are also needed to help develop a scientifically literate society. There is therefore a need for Muslim youths to brainstorm and discuss on the nature of human resources needed to undertake the tasks and responsibilities to establish their own science and technology expertise who can manage their societies and face the global challenges of today and tomorrow. Muslims need to develop, innovate and apply S & T for their prosperity and security. To ensure that whatever plans and strategies are successfully implemented, the science community needs to adopt excellent work cultures in an environment that is conducive. Having had an understanding on the nature and types of human resources Muslim societies need, work cultures and conducive environments, Muslim youths need to design and manage programs required by their societies.

Muslim societies are spread over the globe. The varied geographical cultural background united through a common religion of Islam should be an advantage. Thus bringing them together will promote fraternity, permit exchange and fertilization of ideas. It will also help them establish networking that can help Muslim societies organize and conduct activities toward prosperity and secure world, achieve Vision 1441 that has been adopted by OIC during its annual assembly in 2003.
